What is Shamanism?

Shamanism is an ancient spiritual practice found in cultures worldwide, focusing on a deep connection with Nature and the Spirit world. Shamanic practitioners believe that all things possess a Spirit, with the practitioner acting as the intermediary between the physical and non-physical worlds, until the client becomes self-sufficient to safely move through these different dimensions. Through interaction with the spirit world, healing, guidance, and balance can be created for the individual, community, and environment. There are many ways that interaction with the Spirit world can take place (see tools and techniques section below). Shamanic healing seeks to restore wholeness and balance by addressing the root spiritual causes of illness and disharmony.

What is shamanic healing?

Shamanic Healing is an holistic approach to well-being that addresses the spiritual roots of physical, emotional, and mental imbalances. It involves the practitioner and client journeying into non-ordinary reality to identify and resolve spiritual issues such as soul loss, power loss, and energetic intrusions. Through various techniques such as illumination, soul retrieval, and entity extraction (see tools and techniques section below), shamanic healing aims to restore personal power, emotional balance, and spiritual connection. These techniques support an individual's innate ability to heal, and promotes a deeper understanding of their life's path and purpose. Shamanic Healing complements medical or psychological care — it is not a substitute for clinical diagnosis or treatment.

Who is shamanic healing for?

  • People struggling with pain, recurring negative patterns, addictions, and persistent physical / emotional / mental issues.

  • Individuals feeling disempowered, lacking energy, and finding it hard to assert themselves.

  • Those experiencing feelings of disconnection, loneliness, being lost, and emptiness.

  • Individuals who feel a deep calling to connect with Nature, ancestral wisdom, and their spiritual path.

  • People who feel that modern Western therapies have only taken them so far and are struggling to resolve their issues.
  • Those drawn to ancient healing modalities, communication with the Spirit world, and profound spiritual transformation.

  • People who want more from Life and sense that there is more available than just the physical world.

Matthew holds a very grounded and intentional space… one where the body can truly relax and shift without force. Safe, steady, and deeply supportive. I am really grateful…
thank you for holding this space.

What shamanic tools and techniques do you use?

These shamanic tools and techniques are designed to help with emotional and psychological issues, physical wellbeing, trauma and life transitions, sense of meaning and spiritual connection, habitual patterns, and feelings of being stuck.

Illumination

Unresolved experiences - like trauma, grief, fear - can leave imprints in a person’s energy field. A shamanic illumination aims to bring light and awareness to these imprints, and then transform or release them.

Perhaps you are experiencing a repeating pattern in your life, feel blocked physically / emotionally / mentally / spiritually, or have a limiting belief about yourself that you would like to change. We identify the issue that you want to work with, where this is stuck in the body, and then go through a process to identify the root and transform or release it.

Soul Retrieval

During a traumatic, overwhelming, or intense event, a part of the soul can split off in order to protect itself and to survive. A soul retrieval is the process of bringing those lost parts back, and reclaiming what is rightly ours in order to become whole.

We first identify the issue that you want to work with and where this is located in the body. Using the sound of a drum, you or I will journey using meditation to locate the missing soul part. We will then return the lost part to your energy field and integrate it, promoting vitality and deep emotional work.

Entity Extraction

Traditionally, shamans and priests assisted people when dying, helping the spirit to transition from this world to the next. Now, with the absence of shamanic practitioners and priests, there aren’t enough people helping with the process of death, leading to spirits getting stuck in this world.

Spirits can then latch onto someone else, get stuck wondering around (traditionally called ghosts), or get corded to someone who is living in this world. This practice helps to safely move these spirits on to another place or dimension where they want to go.

Connecting with the Ancestors

Do you feel weighed down by your family history? Would you like to connect with a family member that has died? Is there something that needs to be communicated between you and your ancestors?

In this exercise, you pick three three of your dead ancestors, and three stones to represent them, placing them around your energy field. You then step into each of their lives one-by-one. There may be something that you would like to say to each other, and they may have gifts for you. We will then honour and release them from the exercise.

Bodywork

Do you feel connected with your body, or do you live primarily in your head? This embodied practice helps to open the communication channels between your head and your heart, and connect at a deeper level with all parts of your body.

There may be conflict both in and between areas of the body. We can allow the body parts to speak, and tell us what what they need. We may work with stones on the body, representing stress and energetic blocks, so that we can release them and create space for energy to flow more freely.

Death and Rebirth

The intention here is to go through the death experience. We review your life, see what needs to be acknowledged, and what could have been said. Ensuring there is nothing left undone, this life can be at peace. Then we go through an exercise where the luminous body is released from the physical body for cleansing, representing death.

Once the luminous body is connected back to the physical body, you are reborn. What do you want to manifest in this new life? What do you want in your life from this moment onwards?

Removal of Psychic Daggers

These can be consciously or unconsciously sent to hurt you, and can become stuck in your energy field. More often than not they are not deliberate, and have been sent your way through negative thoughts or insults from someone towards you. For example, harsh criticism, hurtful words, anger, resentment, and jealousy can generate them.

I will test your energy field with a pendulum to see where any are located. We will see whether you have any sense of its source, then safely remove it, and cleanse and seal the energetic wound.

Cord Cutting

We form energetic bonds with people, places, and organisations where we’ve had strong relationships - romantic partners, family, friends, work colleagues etc. These cords carry emotional energy back and forth, and can become out of balance in relationship.

This cord cutting exercise is designed to release unhealthy attachments, lingering emotional ties, and any unhealthy co-dependancy. It creates room for healthy bonds to grow, restores your energy, and helps to reclaim your independence.

Who Am I? Exercise

This exercise is designed to identify the different roles that we play in our life. These can be relationship roles (mother, father, friend, lover, wife etc.), professional or hobby based roles (manager, teacher, singer, unemployed etc.), and emotional (carer, victim, critic, addict, controller etc.).

The exercise shows us that all of our roles our choices, and that the roles we choose to step in / out of are not all we are. There is the opportunity to let go of attachment to a particular role, and welcome what we want to take forward in our lives.

What happens during a shamanic healing?

We will first check-in, discuss what brings you to the session, and identify the best course of action. Dependent on the technique, you will be invited to either sit or lie down fully clothed, relax, and close your eyes, either in-person or on screen. We will then connect with the non-physical world to consult with spirit guides, ancestors, nature spirits etc. We will be guided by these spirits, our own intuitive sense, and what comes up throughout the process. Once the journey is complete, I will use tools such as smudging with sacred herbs to cleanse your energy field. There will be time to discuss how you are doing after the treatment, what insights were gained during the journey, and how to integrate the healing. There will be follow-up through email and further sessions if needed.

How does the non-physical world assist during a shamanic healing session?

In shamanic traditions, healing is often facilitated through the guidance and assistance of non-physical beings, such as nature spirits, ancestors, animal spirits, ascended masters etc. These non-physical allies provide wisdom, protection, and energetic support during the shamanic healing journey. They help to identify the root causes of imbalances, retrieve lost soul parts, and remove energetic blockages. It is believed that the ancient shamans received their wisdom from observing nature and communing with its many spirits.

Each healing session is a collaborative effort between you the client, me the shamanic practitioner, and these compassionate spirits, working together to restore harmony and wholeness. There is lots of help available from the non-physical world - we ask for help, be clear in our intent and instructions, and be open to receive.
